Earth Day Festivities 'Spring' to Life with Leap for Green Fair

The annual fair is gearing up to celebrate Green Schools, Green Businesses and much more.

Mercer Island's own sustainability fair, Leap For Green, is gearing up for a fantastic event this April 16th! IslandVision created this event 4 years ago in an effort to raise awareness about sustainable living and to offer our citizens many ways to learn how to be more responsible and compassionate to our community environmentally. The main message is "environment, economy and equity."

This year's event, held at the Community Center at Mercer View from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., will celebrate the many different elements of green living including highlighting our school district's success in achieving "Level 1 Certification" through King County's Green School Program. An honor expected to be received in May.

The fair will host the usual and fabulous Mercer Island Farmers Market, music, Guatemalan dancers, kids crafts, local utility companies explaining the services they can offer our community and so much more. Blue Sky Cleaners is the title sponsor for the event, celebrating it's contribution to our island's Green Business profile!

Leap For Green is an event for kids of all ages:  kids bring their friends, grandparents bring their grandkids, neighbors bring the neighborhood and come to enjoy a day of fun and festivities while learning ways to improve your lifestyle. Add it to your calendar now so you don't miss the event!

About this column: Scream It Green offers education and enlightened awareness about what is happening to our environment and what you can do to make a difference.
