High School Radio Students Earn Honors at State Conference

Students working and DJing at KMIH-FM 88.9 and 94.5 earned the awards Thursday at the 2012 Washington Radio Conference.

Mercer Island High School students learning career skills in the school's Radio class (taught by teacher and producer Charlie Hilen) picked up several awards Thursday at the 2012 Washington Radio Conference at Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor.

With five of the seven schools that offer radio in the state attending, MIHS radio students placed in four categories. The following students were honored in the competition:

Levi Larkin placed 3rd for Best Public Service Announcement.

Matt Sexton placed 2nd for Best Promotion Campaign and 3rd for Best Jock Talk.

Ian Caldwell, Sebastian Aron, Dan Mayer, Duncan Koontz and Sam Peterson took 3rd place for Best Team Newscast.

Ryan Rouillard received many outstanding compliments from other radio teachers who heard Ryan’s broadcast reel and had also tuned in .
