Photo Gallery: IMS Teams up With Farmers Market for Carnival Fun

The Farmers Market vendors were a welcome addition to the school's annual end-of term party.

Before adjourning for summer, hosted their traditional end-of-year Carnival June 16 with fun for both students and teachers.

Associated Student Body (ASB) student-representatives and teachers work together each year to raise enough money through a magazine fundraising drive to rent giant inflatable play areas, a water dunking platform, a climbing wall and other games.

"It's a great end-of-the-year bonding experience," said IMS PTA President Jayme Whitman.

And for the first time, vendors from the (MIFM) are joining the Carnival this year, such as Maximus Minimus and Got Soup. Local businesses also got into the act, including a truck from manned by local franchise owner Tom McNair. Each Farmers Market participant is contributing up to 10% of their proceeds to IMS.

Two eighth-graders, Lily Froio and her friend, Anushka Patel were enjoying ice cream from new Farmer's Market vendor Parfait.

"So good!" they said, as they tried to keep the ice cream from melting on the warm spring day.

"I wanted students to have better food at this event," said MIFM board member Nannette Bassett. "I figured it would be a nice event to get the Farmers Market involved."

Students were enjoying both more traditional fare, such as strawberry shortcakes laid on by the PTA and snow cones, cotton candy, and popcorn stands operated by the teachers in exchange for a dollar or two.

June 17 was the last day of class for the 2010-2011 school year. IMS begins the 2011-12 school year on Wednesday, August 31.
