Fall Harvest a Perfect Time to Get Kids Excited about Fruits and Veggies
By Erin Sirianni
Want to get your kids excited about fruits and vegetables? There’s no better time than the end-of-summer harvest season. Fall favorites, such apples, pears, plums, pumpkins, and squash, are ripe for the picking - but don’t forget the eggplant and brussel sprouts too!
If you don’t have a backyard garden, start at the farm – Harvest Celebrations are in full swing throughout the Puget Sound area – or at the Mercer Island Farmers Market. Kids love seeing where food comes from and those who have a hand in picking out fruits and veggies themselves will be more likely to eat them.
Invite children to help you prepare the foods that they’ve chosen, and then gather round the table to enjoy what will promise to be a flavorful – and memorable – meal together.
And don’t miss the opportunity to celebrate the fall harvest with your friends and neighbors. The Mercer Island Food Revolution and Experience Food Project invite you to a Fall Harvest Community Dinner featuring a mouth-watering menu the whole family will love! ‘Tis the season for good food to be shared and celebrated together!
