Covenant Retirement Communities Awards $17,750 in Academic Scholarships in 2013

Eleven college students started school this fall with the help of $17,750 in scholarships awarded by Covenant Retirement Communities in 2013.

Seven Covenant Retirement Communities employees’ dependents received a post-high school scholarship and four Covenant Retirement Communities employees received the Paul V. Peterson Scholarship.  Both scholarships are part of the company’s ongoing commitment to help employees and their dependents achieve their higher education goals.

At Covenant Shores, Mercer Island, Wash., Kathleen Penaranda, daughter of Leopoldo, who works in the maintenance department, was given $2,500 to study nutrition and exercise physiology at Washington State University, Pullman, Wash.  Zoe Browne, daughter of Steven, a physical therapy assistant, was awarded $1,250 to major in nursing.

At Covenant Village of Cromwell, Cromwell, Conn., Dakota W. Urban, daughter of Kimberly, a billing coordinator, was awarded $2,500 to study environmental science at Paul Smith’s College, Paul Smiths, N.Y.

At Windsor Park, Carol Stream, Ill., Shivani Patel, daughter of Pallavi, a dietary aide, was awarded $2,500 to study biology/pre-medicine. Aayushi Patel, daughter of Saroj, who works in food service, was awarded $1,250 to study nursing at College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, Ill.

Also at Windsor Park, Paula Sabater, a nurse, received a $1,250 Paul V. Peterson Scholarship to help fund her studies at Oakton Community College, Des Plaines, Ill.

At The Samarkand, Santa Barbara, Calif., Jocelyn Aguilar Franco, daughter of Maria, a cook, was awarded $1,750 to major in English and Chicano studies at Santa Barbara City College. Angella Lopez, daughter of Urbano, a clinical coordinator, was awarded $1,000 to study biology at California State University Channel Islands, Camarillo, Calif.

At Covenant Village of Colorado, Westminster, Colo., Marilyn Wagner, a licensed practical nurse, was awarded a $1,750 Paul V. Peterson Scholarship to help fund her education in nursing at Front Range Community College, Longmont, Colo.

At Covenant Village of Northbrook, Northbrook, Ill., Kim Erickson, who works in church relations/sales, was awarded a Paul V. Peterson Scholarship. The $750 scholarship will help fund her master’s degree in integrated marketing communications from Roosevelt University, Chicago and Schaumburg, Ill.

At Covenant Retirement Communities’ central office, Skokie, Ill., Sarah Dornfeld, a health care analyst, was awarded a $1,250 Paul V. Peterson Scholarship to help fund her studies in nonprofit management at North Park University, Chicago. 

A selection committee for the dependent scholarship based awards on educational and career pursuits consistent with CRC values; an essay demonstrating a defined educational/career goal; and the student’s involvement in extra-curricular activities.
