Mercer Island girls Win State Challenge Cup Championship

Eastside FC G98 White, coached by Kyle Langowski, saw 4 shutouts in 6 matches of their GU15, Division 1, Challenge Cup journey. The team, which includes Bella Johnson (goalie); Kate Miller (forward); and Nalani Ogawa (defender), all from Mercer Island, scored 18 goals overall, with only 4 against. The tightest score came in the final against Spokane Shadow, in which the EFC girls prevailed, 1-0. According to Coach Langowski, "Spokane has been a very tough match-up all year, and it continued into the final. They definitely pushed the girls to compete at their highest level today, and coming away with a victory is a culmination of the hard work they have put in over the last 2 months." The girls now go on to the Region IV Presidents Cup, June 11-15, in Morgan Hill, California, a new adventure Langowski looks forward to with anticipation. "It will be exciting to continue this path into Regionals and get a chance to test ourselves further," he says.
