MIYSC Girls U13 MI Maroon Plays Hard at Celebrate Shoreline Tournament

After only four practices, the newly minted GU13 MI Maroon headed into their first tournament (Celebrate Shoreline), with 15 returning players and two new teammates.  In their tournament opener Friday evening June 14th they came out in their first half of soccer of the year on fire, scoring two goals and taking a two goal lead into halftime.  Maroon continued their attack in the second half scoring three more goals earning a 5-0 win.

In their early morning game on Saturday Maroon again came ready to play scoring 5 goals in the first half.  Sportsmanship ruled the second half with plenty of passing and ball movement.  Maroon ended the game with its second 5-0 win.

Their noon game started slow.  Playing through the heat and tired muscles Maroon managed a goal in the 26th minute and took a 1-0 lead into halftime.  As with their first two games Maroon dominated second half play scoring four more goals coming up with their third 5-0 win.

Onward to finals!  Maroon was matched against The Rockets from Renton in the finals.  The Rockets were a skilled quality team who had also won their first three bracket games easily with a combined goal total of 14 with none scored against.  The final was very evenly played as both teams displayed the skills that had carried them thus far.  The Rockets managed a quality goal near the end of the first half to take the lead.  Maroon came out early in the second half with a flurry of shots coming from all around, but was unable to dent the net.  In the end Maroon carried play for most of the second half but was unable to score the equalizer, losing 1-0 in a well-played game.

It was a great weekend of soccer for Maroon with lots of playing time for all and in perfect weather.  Their 15 goals were scored by 7 different players in a  well-balanced effort.
