  • Where/When: 2-3 p.m. Friday, July 22 at the home of Susie Wolcher, 5911 83rd Pl SE, Mercer Island
  • Why Go: The mavens who produce the Mercer Island Phone Directory are seeking new members, and are having a lovely tea party to entice younger folks to join. This organization is an Island institution.

2011 Sandblast Festival

  • Where/When: 9 a.m., Saturday and Sunday, July 23 and 24 at McCormick Park, 11190 NE 12th St, Bellevue
  • Why Go: The annual Sandblast Festival held at McCormick Park on the shore of the historic and beautiful Snoqualmie River suggests that you “Get Your Funk On!” this year. The main goal of the festival is to celebrate the arts and introduce and promote local and regional artists and art organizations who produce professional and community sand sculptures.
  • Cost: Admission is free.

Redmond "Arts in the Parks"

  • Where/When: 7 p.m., July 22 at the Redmond City Hall Green Space, 15670 NE 85th St. in Redmond.
  • Why Go: The "Tall Boys" wiil be playing traditional old time fiddle tunes from one of Seattle’s Finest string bands. 
  • Cost: Free

  • Where/When: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Sunday, July 24 at the Parking lot, 2615 76th Ave. S.E on Mercer Island
  • Why Go: Bargain hunting has gone from a past time to a necessity in these tough economic times. But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy some serious haggling and chatting with friends and neighbors while getting a good deal on gently used goods. No early sales. Cash or Mercer Island checks only.   • Cost: Admission is free

  • Where/When: 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 22 and 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, July 23.
  • Why Go: Friday is Italian wine tasting night with an array of Piedmont, Tuscan, and southern Italian wines. Complimentary tasting, and offered by glass as well. Saturday feaures the jazzed piano of OWS charmer, Ted Yelman,who will be playing electric piano to accompany your wine tasting.
  • Cost: Free.
