Girls Basketball to Host 'Free Throw-a-Thon' on Sept. 29

The fundraiser to benefit the Mercer Island Girls Basketball will be held in the Albertsons parking lot this Saturday, Sept. 29.

Free throws are the easiest shot in basketball … or are they?

The Mercer Island Girls Basketball booster club is challenging local youth to test their skills from the charity stripe and fundraise for the coming season with a "Free Throw-a-thon" on Saturday, Sept. 29.

The MIGB boosters goal is to raise awareness for Mercer Island Girls’ Basketball and raise additional money for the sports program. All monies raised will pay for gym time for MIGB, allowing girls youth basketball games to be played at PEAK or the Old Boys and Girls Club instead of the North Mercer gym. Basketball hoops and a mini-court will be set up in the Albertsons parking lot. Teams organized by age groups will shoot free throws for a period of 90 minutes.

As an added incentive, there are prizes for the top 3 girls who raise the most money. The grand prize, which will be awarded to the girl who raises the most money, is 4 court-side seats and parking pass to an upcoming Seattle Storm game. Total value: $550.00.  In addition, the team who has raises the most money will receive a pizza party!

Teams will shoot together and follow the following schedule, based on age group:

  • 10 - 11:30 a.m.: 4th grade
  • 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.: 5th grade
  • 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.: 6th grade
  • 2:30 p.m. - 4 p.m.: 7th grade
  • 4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.: 8th grade
  • High school players anytime between 10am-5:30pm

Just a short thought to get the word out quickly about anything in your neighborhood.
Share something with your neighbors. Write a new post... What's up? Make an announcement, speak your mind, or sell something

I'll be a bit more direct than Jerry. The new site is a mess. Visually it's extremely cluttered.Read More It's slow, very slow. There appear to be no RSS feeds, a major negative. Following a few links sometimes sends you to a different community's Patch site. And what happened with the editing staff. Unless I missed something, suddenly there are new editors without any warning. No matter what the circumstances, normally such a move would be accompanied by an announcement of some sort. Venice may be the greatest editor ever, but it looks like she is splitting her time among several Patch sites, so the odds are stacked against her. Her "latest activities" list even suggests that she is editing a Patch site down in the San Francisco Bay area. With all due respect, Patch sites should be hyper-local, and the best route to that is a local (i.e. Mercer Islander) editor.

The Jury is still out. I liked the "Old Patch". J
