EVENTS FOR FAMILIES, May 4, 2011 – May 11, 2011

May 5: Community Dinner Sponsored by Mercer Island Food Revolution at the

Mercer Island families are invited to come together to enjoy a healthy, delicious freshly prepared meal. Pay a donation and enjoy dinner and hear about the Mercer Island Food Revolution’s partnership with the Whidbey Island based non-profit Experience Food Project. Chef Tom from the Experience Food Project will prepare a Cinco de Mayo-themed dinner of chicken with mango salsa, rice and beans, mixed greens and brownies with crema batida. Admission is first come, first served.  Any proceeds from the dinner will go toward food programs for Mercer Island kids.

May 7: Bonfire at Issaquah's Fox Hollow Farm and Equestrian Center 

5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Fox Hallow is equestrian farm nestled between Squak and Tiger Mountains in Issaquah at 12031 Issaquah-Hobart Road SE.  One Saturday night a month the farm hosts a family friendly event where you can relax by a bonfire, enjoy smores and enjoy the farm’s activities and visits with farm animals including goats, pigs, peacocks, chickens, ducks, rabbits and adorable Main Coon kittens.  Families can bring picnic dinners or purchase meals at the farm. 

Cost: $8 with children under age one free.

May 7: Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination at the Pacific Science Center

10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Don’t miss this exhibit ending May 8th featuring interactive displays, where guests can experiment with magnetic levitation, build a robot, and simulate the jump to lightspeed in a full-size replica of the Millennium Falcon cockpit. See more than 80 authentic costumes, interactive displays, models and props from all six Star Wars films, including Luke Skywalker's landspeeder and Darth Vader's menacing black suit.  Guest are encouraged to buy tickets online prior to arrival.

May 9: Red Pyramid Party at the 

2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Registration required for this celebration of Rick Riordon’s book The Red Pyramid. Watch feats of ancient magic, discover clues on a scavenger hunt, test your Red Pyramid knowledge and other fun adventures.  Come dressed as your favorite Egyptian god, goddess, queen, pharaoh or Red Pyramid character and win a prize!  Registration ends May 9 at 10 a.m.. May 10: Member Hour at the  in

9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Ditch the crowds during this special members-only time at the KidsQuest Children’s Museum offered every Tuesday and Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m..  Hop over to nearby when you finish for a New York deli style, stay awhile breakfast (they open at 10 AM) including a special breakfast menu just for kids.
