EVENTS FOR FAMILIES, August 3, 2011 – August 10, 2011

August 4: Adventure Playground at Deane's Children's Park aka the Dragon Park at

• 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
• Tuesday and Thursdays through August 30th
• Come dig in the dirt, build forts, play knights and dragons and create imaginary worlds using a variety of materials.  Park and Recreation staff will provide materials and tools as well as guidance on how to use them safely.
• Children younger than age seven must be accompanied by an adult caretaker. Age seven to 13 may attend without an adult although adults are welcome to stay.  First time participants must have a parent sign a waiver before participating.
• Cost: Free

August 5: Fun Mobile at the  in the morning and  in the afternoon

• 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the South Mercer Playfields & 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Luther Burbank Meadow
• The Fun on the Run mobile entertainment van is back with lots of fabulous fun activities for the island's kids including mega squirt guns, water balloon launcher and giant slip-n-slide. Complete schedule for August available online. 
• Cost: Free

August 5: Parents Night Out at

• 6 p.m to 9:30 p.m.
• Kids age three to twelve will enjoy games, a pizza dinner and snacks and lots of fun while you enjoy a date night.  Kids must be potty-trained to participate. This is one of the least expensive and most fun “parents night out” programs on the eastside, conveniently located close to the dining and movie options of .

August 8: Reading Buddies at the

• 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
• Children ages five to eight are invited to stop by the children's area between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. for reading with a local teen. The teens have received training with librarians.
• Cost: Free

August 9: Shrek Forever After Showing at the Bellevue Summer Outdoor Movie Program at the

• 7:30 p.m. Pre-movie activity of a Shrek movie trivia contest begins, movie starts at dusk
• Bring the whole family to this PG rated hit movie featuring the last chapter of the Shrek saga where Shrek battles Rumpelstilskin.
• Cost: Free but consider a donation to benefit clients of this week’s featured agency, the , of Play-Doh, medium to large stickers, dot markers or bubble mix. Schedule of the remaining summer movie schedule available online.
