Portable Planetarium at the Mercer Island Library and More: Play Date! July 4 – July 11

Fun activities and some sweet deals for the whole family this upcoming week, July 4 – July 11

July 5: Star Search: Portable Planetarium Show at the

  • 1 pm to 1:45 pm
  • For kids ages eight to twelve
  • Presented by the Pacific Science Center’s Science on Wheels program. Learn to use a star map and apply your new skills as you hunt for Greco-Roman constellations across the sky.
  • Cost: Free but pre-registration required online

July 5: Up in the Sky: Portable Planetarium Show at the

  • 2 pm to 2:30 pm
  • For kids ages four to eight
  • Presented by the Pacific Science Center’s Science on Wheels program. Enter a nighttime “hilltop” in our portable planetarium. Inside, learn your way around the giant “connect-the-dot” pictures in the sky.
  • Cost: Free but pre-registration required online.

July 6: Fun Mobile at

Find out what's happening in Mercer Islandwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

  • 1 pm
  • Enjoy activities today inspired from the Survivor television show with special bug themed activities.
  • The Fun Mobile will visit Mercer Island parks all summer long on Friday afternoons, bringing fun activities including a giant slip-n-slide, mega squirt guns and a water balloon launcher.
  • Cost: Free but donations are always appreciated.

July 7: SAT and ACT Practice Tests at the

  • 10 am to 2 pm
  • For teens
  • Check your test-taking skills at this 3 ½ hour practice test simulating the real thing. Come back July 18th to find out your scores and learn some strategies for improvement.
  • Cost: Free but pre-registration required online

July 8: Mercer Island Farmers Market at the

  • 10 am to 3 pm
  • Drop by today for the Mercer Island Pie and Dessert Bake Off. Judging starts at noon. Sponsored by   Anyone can enter. Complete rules and entry form available online
  • Enjoy live music and stop by the Children’s Table for a free program on garden visitors.

July 8: Adventure Playground at Deane’s Children’s Park 

  • 1 pm to 4 pm
  • For kids of all ages
  • This is not a drop off program and supervision by an adult caregiver is required.
  • Adventure Playground is a one of a kind play area that allows kids to create their own play adventure. In the wooded forest of Deane’s Children’s Park adjacent to , children are provided toolboxes, building supplies, safety items and the freedom to create build-it–yourself play zones with the guidance of park staff.  
  • Adventure Playground will run all summer on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday afternoons from 1 pm to 4 pm.
  • Cost: Free but donations to fund this popular program are always welcome. Call 206 275-7864 if you would like to also donate materials such as lumber, tools, rope and tools.

July 10: Raccoon Tunes and Possum Tales Music Show at the

  • 10:30 am to 11:20 am
  • For kids ages three and older with an adult caregiver
  • Join children’s author and award winning songwriter Eric Ode and his buddy, Nelson Raccoon, for a high-participation celebration featuring puppets, poetry, songs and silliness.
  • Cost: Free and no pre-registration required.

July 14 & 15: Summer Celebration at the

  • Enjoy a community parade, live entertainment, children’s fun zone, arts and crafts fair, mile run, basketball tournament and much more.
  • Purchase tickets now for boat rides around the island July 14th with Argosy cruises departing from at 11 am, 1 pm & 3 pm, $10 per ticket for those under age 18, $15 per ticket ages 18 and older, by calling 206 275-7609.

Mercer Island Kiwanis Fireworks Stand in the Parking Lot

  • Open 10 am to 9 pm through July 4th
  • When you purchase fireworks from this stand, you support 18 non-profit organizations that serve local families including the , Mercer Island Parks and Recreation Fun Mobile and the .
  • Setting off fireworks is permitted on Mercer Island only on July 4th from 11 am until 11 pm, and not in public parks.

Free Friend Fridays at the

  • SJCC members can bring a friend for free every Friday in July to work out, take a class or swim in the pool.
  • Limited to one friend per member and guests must register at the reception desk.
