Play Date! See YTN's Sleeping Beauty

Fun activities and some sweet deals for the whole family this upcoming week.

(YTN) commences its 28th school season of exuberant and youthful storytelling with a musical production beloved by audiences and generations world-wide. Disney’s Sleeping Beauty opens Friday, November 4, and performs through November 20, 2011. Sleeping Beauty is directed by YTN Education Director Amanda Lee Williams with musical direction by Heather MacLaughlin Garbes.

Sleeping Beauty performs on YTN’s Mainstage November 4-20, 2011; Fridays and Saturday evenings at 7:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm. . Tickets may be purchased by calling the Box Office at (206) 232-4145, ext. 109, or online by visiting www.youththeatre.org

November 10: Preschool Story Time at the

  • 10:30 am to 11:10 am
  • For ages three to five with an adult caregiver.
  • Celebrate the world of language with stories, rhymes, activities and lots of fun.

November 12: Toy Swap at

  • Buy, sell, donate or volunteer at the Mercer Island Preschool’s Association’s toy swap. Sell your toys on consignment. A portion of the proceeds goes to fund MIPA charities and operations.

November 14: Indoor Playground at the

  • 9:30 am to Noon
  • Kids six and under accompanied by an adult caregiver will enjoy zipping around on scooters and playing with balls, giant blocks and other fun toys. A great place for you and your child to get out of the rain and run, play, socialize and have fun.

  • Cost: Mercer Island residents, $3.25 per child, non residents, $4.50 per child. Program sponsored by the Mercer Island Preschool Association.

November 14: Growing Your Preschoolers Brain Early Literacy Program For Parents at the

  • 7 pm to 9 pm
  • For parents and caregivers of children ages one to five.
  • Parent Educator Kathy Slattengren of Priceless Parenting will discuss how you can help your child develop the social skills, language skills and behavior traits that will lead to success in grade school. 
  • Cost: Free but you must pre-register for the class online to attend.

November 15: Write to Win - How To Write a Success College Application at the 

  • 7 pm to 9 pm
  • For teens
  • Find out from a college administrator how to put together a winning college application. Learn what college administrators look for when they evaluate essays and get ideas on how to generate a narrative that will get you noticed.
  • Cost: Free but teens must pre-register for the class online to attend.

  • Deal: Island Books is hosting book fairs this month to raise money for local schools. Nov. 9 benefits , Nov. 14th Hillside Student Community School and Nov. 16th, (runs from 9:15 am to noon).
  • Enjoy visiting with parents and friends over a glass of wine and appetizers and get some of your holiday shopping done early!
  • The book fairs run from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm unless otherwise noted.
