Sprucing Up Mercer Island Streets as Autumn Arrives

Nelson Morales, a Mercer Island maintenance department worker, maintains the right of way Wednesday afternoon on West Mercer Way on the Interstate 90 trail.

City crews have been busy this week trimming away this summer's overgrowth that is crowding local sidewalks and roads on the city's main arterial roads before autumn officially arrives and leaves begin to fall β€” leading to more clean-up work.

Morales said city maintenance crews prune trees and hedges and remove vines and invasive plants twice a year from the I-90 corridor where he was working.

Fall 2013 officially begins this weekend on Sunday, Sept. 22.
