Viewfinder: Meet & Greet with City Councilmen Mike Cero and Bruce Bassett

City Council candidates get out to hear what concerns Islanders.

With an election on the fall horizon, Mercer Island City Council members Mike Cero and Bruce Bassett both held separate meet-and-greet sessions with the public this week, inviting Islanders to come out, say hello, and talk about anything that was on their minds.

At Bennett's Pure Food Bistro on Tuesday night, Cero and his wife Susie bellied up to the bar as Mike chatted up other patrons to find out what concerned them on the Island.

Thursday morning, Bruce Bassett had his morning cup of coffee at the chalet-style Starbucks on the Island's north end. Former Mercer Island mayor Elliot Newman, Mercer Island Farmers Market president Joel Wachs and Elizabeth Cross, a self-described "interested citizen," were there to join him.

Four City Council seats will be up for election in the fall, and as of this week, no one has filed papers to challenge the incumbents. The deadline for filing is June 10.
