Viewfinder: Northwest Yeshiva High School Dinner & Auction

Mercer Island's Yeshiva raises over $200,000 to improve the school and maintain its affordability.

Hundreds of guests showed up at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in downtown Seattle last Sunday night to help raise funds for Northwest Yeshiva High School at its annual auction. Billed as one of the Puget Sound's most affordable private schools with an annual tuition fee of about $13,000, the school is hoping to keep it that way in the face of recession-induced budget cuts.Β

The evening was colorfully emceed by local radio and TV personality John Curley. Former NYHS board president Moshe Genauer and NYHS board member Ruben Owen were honored during the event for their many years of service to the school and the Jewish community.Β

With auction items ranging from handmade yarmulkes to a five-night London vacation, more than $200,000 was raised for the school, including funding for a new computer lab.
