Whiz Kids: Island Park Garden Club

Island Park Elementary School students spend free time in the school Learning Garden.

Twenty students from in grades 1 thru 5 have spent the last eight weeks braving the soggy weather and working in the school's Learning Garden as part of the afterschool Garden Club.

We salute these 20 students this week for being earth ambassadors, and proudly pronounce them this week's !

  • Name: Island Park Garden Club,
  • Class, School:  1st-5th Grade, Island Park Elementary
  • Accomplishment:  Garden Club members planted seeds, cared for seedlings and transplanted them into the Garden. They also worked with resident artist Stewart Wong to create beautiful panels which will adorn a bare wall facing the IP Garden.
  • Why this is Awesome: The students have spent the last eight weeks learning about nature, life, and respect for the earth while getting their hands dirty and planting a garden plot which will feed students next autumn. They were also able to study plants closely through their art project.
