Active Getaways With Your BFF(s)

Get out and enjoy the outdoors with your friends!

According to the most recent weather forecast, sunshine is finally on its way! If you've been suffering from cabin fever, it might be time to start thinking about enjoying all that our beautiful city has to offer. Go on. Get outside and play!

One of the many great outdoor activities to enjoy in our area-complete with breathtaking views for a variety of fitness levels-is hiking. With dozens of hiking trails nearby, the only constraints you'll have is the amount of time and effort you're willing to expend. Bring your best friend, an ample supply of water and snacks, a camera, bug repellent, and any other essentials you may need. You can even join a hiking group, if you get hooked! Check out Washington Hiking Advisor for further information about various local hiking trails.

If you prefer water to land, you can go row, row, row your boat not gently-but as fast as you can-at Mt. Baker Rowing and Sailing Center . Not only will you see the ripples on the water, and the sun gleaming off of the lake, you will also be invigorated by a challenging and invigorating workout. Get a friend to join in the fun, or make a few new friends along the way. Sailing, windsurfing and kayak classes and groups are also available.

Get back in the saddle! If you left the joy of horseback riding back in your childhood, it may be time to resurrect an old passion. With numerous equestrian centers nearby, you can take a lesson or join a group of riders. Check out Gold Creek Equestrian Center, in Woodinville, or Evergreen Equestrian Center, in Kirkland, to learn more.

Are your friends swingers? As in are they golfers or tennis players? Check out the ladies night package at the Golf Club at Newcastle which includes a swing clinic, wine, cheese and FUN, every Tuesday night from July 12th to September 27th. Or, text, facebook, or call a friend or three to join you on one of several local outdoor tennis courts in the area. If you're lucky, you may not even need to leave Mercer Island.
