I actually got my kids involded in helping me plan the budget since they are such a huge part of it and I wanted to give them a little taste of responsilbilty - nothing big just the shopping lists. They were also very heavily involvded when I switched the family over to a prepaid family cell phone plan last year since they were the reason the big kept fluctating so much month to month and they are only 11 and 9. Once I settled on Tracfone prepaid, I allowed them to save up their allowance and buy whatever phones they liked - not a big deal since the phones are like $15 or $20. The real test for them came in buying their own aircards for the phones since I wanted to see how they would spend their money versus how many minutes they wanted to talk to their friends. Suddenly, $10 seems like so much more when it cane buy them 100 minutes.
