The billionaire is buying The Washington Post for $250 million.

The media world was abuzz Monday with news that Amazon.com billionaire Jeff Bezos is buying The Washington Post for $250 million.

Seattle-based Amazon isn’t involved in the purchase–Bezos himself, whose net worth is listed at $25.2 billion on Forbes, will be the sole owner, The Post reported.

Bezos, in an interview, called The Post “an important institution” and expressed optimism about its future. “I don’t want to imply that I have a worked-out plan,” he said. “This will be uncharted terrain, and it will require experimentation.”

Bezos has close family ties to Mercer Island — his parents Jackie and Mike Bezos live on the Island and established the Bezos Family Foundation, of which Jeff Bezos is a director.
