Mercer Island is Third-Weathiest Zip Code in Puget Sound for 2012

The Puget Sound Business Journal released a list of the top-25 wealthiest zip codes in the Puget Sound in its June 8 print edition.

What's in a Zip Code? If you're a Mercer Island resident, it's a significant amount of wealth, according to the Puget Sound Business Journal.

Based on estimates of average household net worth in 2011, Mercer Island's 98040 zip code ranks third in the business-focused newspaper's 2012 ranking, just behind South Sammamish in the 98075 zip code. Mercer Island's average net worth is $578,614, while South Sammamish has an average net worth of $602,308.

Medina's 98039 zip code again ranked as the Puget Sound's wealthiest — which counts Bill Gates as one of its residents, among others — a position the wealthy enclave has held since the PSBJ started the ranking in 2005. Medina has an average net worth of $737,498. That's down 11 percent from 2010, when Medina's average net worth was estimated at $830,068.

I'll be a bit more direct than Jerry. The new site is a mess. Visually it's extremely cluttered.Read More It's slow, very slow. There appear to be no RSS feeds, a major negative. Following a few links sometimes sends you to a different community's Patch site. And what happened with the editing staff. Unless I missed something, suddenly there are new editors without any warning. No matter what the circumstances, normally such a move would be accompanied by an announcement of some sort. Venice may be the greatest editor ever, but it looks like she is splitting her time among several Patch sites, so the odds are stacked against her. Her "latest activities" list even suggests that she is editing a Patch site down in the San Francisco Bay area. With all due respect, Patch sites should be hyper-local, and the best route to that is a local (i.e. Mercer Islander) editor.

The Jury is still out. I liked the "Old Patch". J
