Microsoft unveiled a new logo today for the first time in 25 years. The new logo is on display at the Bellevue Square Microsoft store.

Microsoft unveiled a new logo on Thursday — it's first in 25 years, according to the company.

What do you think? Is it an improvement over the past logo? Vote in our poll and tell us in the comments. (We've got the 1987 displayed here on a photo we have of one of the Microsoft offices in Redmond.)

According to the official Microsoft blog, the new logo, with its four paneled box reminiscent of the old Windows logos, is meant to evoke the different types of products that the company offers:

The logo has two components: the logotype and the symbol. For the logotype, we are using the Segoe font which is the same font we use in our products as well as our marketing communications. The symbol is important in a world of digital motion (as demonstrated in the video above.) The symbol’s squares of color are intended to express the company’s diverse portfolio of products.

The unveiling of the logo was done ahead of the release of some new products, including the , Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, Xbox services and the next version of Office, according to the company.
