Thanks so much for your support and interest over the years at Mercer Island Patch.
As some of you may know, I will be leaving Patch on Oct. 15, and the Local Editor position will remain unfilled going forward.
I tried hard to provide the community with a resource that I felt you weren't getting elsewhere: Delivering local news and information that was objective and fact-driven, while trying to avoid my own personal bias — which any honest and responsible journalist will tell you is impossible to eliminate — and delivered in a timely, relevant way.
I'm sad to be leaving under these circumstances, and that the endeavor was not financially viable within the time we were given to succeed.
There is some good news, however: Mercer Island Patch's parent company, AOL, says the site will remain online as long as it is "a benefit to the community".
I am very proud that a number of residents in the community found the service valuable and informative, and I hope that you could find an alternative in the near future to help support your community.
