UPDATE: Car Slams Into MI Home, Suspect Still At Large

The suspect who drove his car into a home's living room Thursday night is still at large.

UPDATE: Mercer Island Police are continuing to search for a suspect who allegedly drove his car into a home's living room Thursday night.

On Thursday evening, at approximately 9:00pm, Mercer Island officers responded to a residential burglar alarm.  As officers were responding to the alarm, another patrol officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle for traveling without its headlights, near the vicinity of where the alarm was originating.  When the officer activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the driver, the driver failed to yield for the officer and then acclerated away from the officer.  The suspect vehicle fled down a dead end street and then drove into a driveway in the 5600 block of 84th AVE SE, eventually crashing into the living room of a residence.

The home was occupied by the family at the time, however nobody inside the home was injured.  The home suffered significant damage, which was later assessed by structural engineers who were contacted by the homeowners.

The suspect fled on foot after crashing his vehicle into the home.  A search by Bellevue K-9 and their handlers was unsuccessful and the search was terminated at approximately 11:00pm.  It is believed only one suspect was involved in the incident.  A possible description of the suspect is a white male, 6'02"  and175 lbs.

The Mercer Island Police believe at least two residential burglaries are tied to the suspect, with a potential for more.

Detectives will be obtaining a search warrant to search the vehicle at a later date.
