Friday Traffic Alert: I-90 Lane Closures, Presidential Motorcade on Eastside
A visit by Pres. Barack Obama and WSDOT lane striping and testing inside the Mt. Baker Tunnel will likely cause traffic delays on Friday.
Road work on Interstate 90 and a visit by President Barack Obama to the Seattle area on President's Day Weekend promises to cause delays Friday.
First, WSDOT crews will close the left two lanes of eastbound I-90 at Island Crest Way from 9 p.m. Thursday, until 5 a.m.Β Friday morning for striping. There will also be intermittent rolling slowdowns and work is weather-dependent.
Later on Friday morning, Pres. Obama will arrive in Seattle and crisscross the metro area, heading first to the Boeing plant in Everett and then returning to Bellevue and a Medina fundraising luncheon.

Then late on Friday, westbound I-90 traffic heading to Seattle will be diverted to the express lanes on Mercer Island beginning at 11:30 p.m. until 7 a.m. Saturday. WSDOT crews will test the ventilation and fire suppression systems inside the Mt. Baker Tunnel in Seattle. The work is part of the third and final stage of the I-90 Two-Way Transit and HOV Operations project.
