Island Crest Way Construction Update July 13

Work on Mercer Island's Island Crest Way, a primary north-south arterial road, began on June 25 and is expected to conclude sometime in August.

(Ed. Note: The following information is from a press release)

Road crews on Island Crest Way are continuing construction on Mercer Island's largest road and utility project this summer, completing installation last week of storm drainage pipes and catch basins along the northbound side of the road from the 5200 block up to 86th Avenue.

This week, contruction workers began saw cutting and pavement removals in advance of new curb and sidewalk work. Watermain work at the Merrimount Drive intersection also got underway. Insallation and electrical work, however, was delayed and did not start work as previously planned.

City engineers say the remaining storm drainage work on Island Crest Way and watermain work at Merrimount Drive will be complete by the end of this week and is still on schedule. The electrical contractor will be installing conduit for several new streetlights along the project, and curb and sidewalk prep will continue. The City expects a concrete crew to be on site later in the week to begin curb work that will start at the south end of the job and progress northward.

I'll be a bit more direct than Jerry. The new site is a mess. Visually it's extremely cluttered.Read More It's slow, very slow. There appear to be no RSS feeds, a major negative. Following a few links sometimes sends you to a different community's Patch site. And what happened with the editing staff. Unless I missed something, suddenly there are new editors without any warning. No matter what the circumstances, normally such a move would be accompanied by an announcement of some sort. Venice may be the greatest editor ever, but it looks like she is splitting her time among several Patch sites, so the odds are stacked against her. Her "latest activities" list even suggests that she is editing a Patch site down in the San Francisco Bay area. With all due respect, Patch sites should be hyper-local, and the best route to that is a local (i.e. Mercer Islander) editor.
