Mercer Island Patch Week in Review: June 27-July 2

MONDAY, JUNE 27

A Federal Court rules in favor of former Mercer Island city employee Londi Lindell's claims the city illegally withheld documents that should have been given to her more than two years ago.

Offered a leading role to replace the Mary Wayte Public Pool, the Stroum Jewish Community Center Board of Directors decided earlier this month to pursue other priorities.

Several Mercer Island players competed in Hoopfest this weekend, a three-on-three tournament in Spokane. Two groups took home a title in their divisions.

TUESDAY, JUNE 28

Courtney Hammond left Mercer Island in 2003 at the age of 16 to pursue an olympic ski dream. Her journey has taken a different direction, but success is still a large part of the story.

After funding was cut last year from the city budget, City Hall received some last minute pledges from donors that exceeded the $22,850 needed for the show.

The school district was considering a 1.9 percent cut in education salaries next year.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29

Mercer Island is not immune to cuts in Metro bus service.

Mostly this is an issue for parents of girls, but there are also boys sporting pierced ears these days.

THURSDAY, JUNE 30

The Mercer Island attorney was arrested earlier this year for allegedly making threats against a Seattle Municipal Court Judge.

Daily or Annual pass now required for vehicle and water access to state parks and recreation areas.
