Mercer Island Police: Two in Custody After Recent Burglaries

Mercer Island Police arrested two women from South King County last week after an attempted burglary in the 4300 block of West Mercer Way, the Mercer Island Police Department reported Monday.

One of the women also is believed by investigators to be responsible for several recent Mercer Island burglaries, according to the Mercer Island Police Department.

Officers and detectives responded to the attempted burglary, reported at 2:30 p.m. on May 16, 2013, and saw and stopped the women in their car a short distance from the burglarized home, Mercer Island Police reported.

According to police, investigators believe at least one of the suspects attempted burglary at this same residence once before, but was unsuccessful.

The victim identified one of the women, who was arrested by officers and identified through photos and fingerprints at the police station, despite her initially providing a false name, according to the police department.

She also was wanted on over $250,000 worth of felony and misdemeanor warrants. The woman is also believed to be responsible for several recent Mercer Island burglaries. Charges are pending at this time, according to police.

The second suspect was the driver of the get-away vehicle and may be charged with Aiding and Abetting, according to police.
