Save the Date: SR 520 Bridge Closure From Feb. 1-3

The next weekend closure of SR 520 is scheduled from 11 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 to noon Sunday, Feb. 3.

The time is coming up for the State Route 520 Bridge to be closed all weekend for construction, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

SR 520 will be closed from Montlake Boulevard in Seattle to Interstate 405 in Bellevue. Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes or take transit during the closure.

The next weekend closure of SR 520 is scheduled from 11 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 to noon Sunday, Feb. 3.

During the closure crews working on the SR 520 Eastside project will shift fiber optic lines critical to the region’s highway cameras and traffic information systems, according to a state press release. Crews also will install new sign structures for SR 520's driver information system.

The work is necssary before traffic shifts onto a newly widened section of the highway, which will happen later this year, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The construction is part of the state's $4.65 billion plan to improve SR 520 from Seattle to Redmond. Improvements include landscaped lids over portions of 520, a wider roadway, increased carpool lanes, a bicycle and pedestrian lane and environmental upgrades and a new bridge deck.

I'll be a bit more direct than Jerry. The new site is a mess. Visually it's extremely cluttered.Read More It's slow, very slow. There appear to be no RSS feeds, a major negative. Following a few links sometimes sends you to a different community's Patch site. And what happened with the editing staff. Unless I missed something, suddenly there are new editors without any warning. No matter what the circumstances, normally such a move would be accompanied by an announcement of some sort. Venice may be the greatest editor ever, but it looks like she is splitting her time among several Patch sites, so the odds are stacked against her. Her "latest activities" list even suggests that she is editing a Patch site down in the San Francisco Bay area. With all due respect, Patch sites should be hyper-local, and the best route to that is a local (i.e. Mercer Islander) editor.
