Who's Mercer Island's Person of the Year?

TIME magazine named President Obama their person of the year for the second time. Tell us who you think should win from our town!

On Dec. 19, Time magazine named President Obama their Person of the Year, again!

The magazine invited votes on 40 candidates, including the president, Gabby Douglas and Kim Jong Un. Other options included The Mars Rover and the Higgs Boson Particle, Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi, and Apple CEO Tim Cook. But, the president took the title again four years after he first won the award as president-elect in 2008.

But who cares about the same-old, same-old? Who is Mercer Island’s Person of the Year—the man or woman who, in Timespeak, “most influenced the news this year for better or worse”?

Tell us your pick in the comment section below!

It has to be the "No to Mercer Island Schools Group" leader. Without question, he changed the course of 2012 for Mercer Island the most. There isn't even a close 2nd.

Andrew King, who was director of the successful Mercer Island campaign Prop. 1, to build a new South End fire station. Andrew, a 2008 grad of MIHS, was instrumental in the success of this campaign, which won by over 56%.

I'm still not sure this is the thing to do. A tear-down is wasteful and unnecessary. JG-

The Seniior Foundation of Mercer Island -- for caring and advocating for the well-being of our citizens over age 60. They've stuck with it for 10 years and have been instrumental in achieving many good things!

I also received an email nominating the Mercer Island Guild, a.k.a the Mercer Island Children's Hospital Guild, as the "person of the year". Here's the email: "Thanks for the opportunity to add to your selection the Mercer Island Children's Hospital Guild. We were handed the Directory in 1942, to raise funds for the - at that time - Seattle Orthopedic Hospital. If you have any questions, please phone me at 206 230 5138. Thank you and Happy New Year! Petra"
