Ash Wednesday Service

The Congreagtional Church on Mercer Island (CCMI) will be hosting the Ash Wednesday Service, on February 13th, at 7:00-7:30 pm, to usher in Lent, a season of reflection before Easter.

Ash Wednesday is a day to pause and take stock of our lives. On this day, we make confession, naming all that keeps us from truly engaging in God’s vision of love for ourselves, for our neighbors, and for our world. And we repent–that is, we turn: toward God, toward each other, and toward practices of faith that will lead to a renewal of our  hearts, minds, and spirits. We receive the sign of the cross in ashes, acknowledging our own fragility and mortality, and our constant reliance on God’s life-giving breath.

If you had not been to an Ash Wednesday Service before, this is a good time to check it out. You can take stock of your life as you confess silently, it is just between you and God. You can also choose to have a cross on your forehead drawn with palm ash.
