City Promotes "Timebanking" Workshops

Mercer Island will host two timebanking workshops on July 31 and Aug. 28 at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center.

The city of Mercer Island is seeking residents interested in "Timebanking" a system organized to provide the exchange of services between interested individuals in a community without using money, according to a city news release.

The city's Youth and Family Services Department launched a Timebank last May, and this summer two follow-up meetings are scheduled to introduce Islanders to the project and register additional members.

Save Money, Build Community For every hour you spend doing a task for someone else, you earn a credit; you can then exchange your credit to have someone complete a task for you, building useful relationships along the way.

Join staff for dessert at one of the upcoming meetings and start moving items off your 'to do' list:

  • learning a new language,
  • getting your gutters cleaned,
  • launching a winter knitting project early.
The Mercer Island Timebank is a project of Youth and Family Services and is part of the Puget Sound Timebanks.

Meetings will be held at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center from 6 - 7:30 p.m., on Wednesday July 31, and Wednesday Aug. 28.
