Select Great Clips Salons Offer Free Cuts to Cancer Survivors June 5

Participating Great Clips salons in Bellevue and Mercer Island are offering free haircuts from 8-8 on June 5, 2012 for all cancer survivors as part of the annual Cancer Survivor Beauty & Support Day.
When Barbara Paget started volunteering at her community hospital in Highland Park, Ill., in 1995, she figured she would mostly be helping out in the coffee shop. But when a woman walked in for coffee one morning and proceeded to break into tears, Barbara’s volunteering took a whole new turn.
“This woman was facing a cancer diagnosis after the recent death of her husband, and she was alone,” explains Barbara. “At that moment I knew I wanted to give support to cancer survivors.”
Many years later, Barbara is the founding chair of Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day, an event held annually when thousands of volunteers from the spa and beauty industry offer cancer survivors their services—free of charge.
Hundreds of Great Clips salons across North America participate in this effort, offering free haircuts to cancer survivors on a designated day. This year, Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day is June 5, 2012.
