About eBooks versus Paper.

Nooks are sometimes TechBooks- and sometimes architectural features.

Roger- You sent Patty home with lots of
books that well illustrate your point that
real books are best. And tempted as I
was by technology, I have to agree with
her- and you that old ways are the best.

Barnes and Noble has its Nook back and
Best Buy has its Kindle. Here's my kind
of "nook"- a glass roofed one- in of our earlier Mercer Island homes. J-

The point of reading is to get lost in the words...the means by which the words are transmitted (book, electrons) is irrelevant. The advantages to carrying 1000s of book in a package smaller than one novel is obvious. This reminds me of folks who decried digital music (CDs) because of the look/feel/touch/sound of LPs. As with the CD/LP argument, the book/nook argument will go down in history with a big "duh!". Do you prefer horse & buggy to cars, telegraph to telephone, etc.? Old isn't automatically better.

I'm glad to see these responses to my latest PatchBlogPost. From an early age, I've always been an avid reader of all kinds of books- especially those with lots of photos, pictures, explanatory diagrams and other kinds of illustrations- w/o the manipulations required by computers. (I have three- a desktop, a laptop and a netbook- all used for lots of enjoyable years).

Ray- Old isn't automatically worse either. J-

SnoozingDog- (I love that moniker)- I do agree
that eBooks on airplanes make a lot of sense. J-

(and furthermore)-
I used to spend a fair amount of time on airplanes and may do more- now that I'm pretty well retired. So I may well try Barnes & Noble's "Nook" and/or Amazon's "Kindle" again for BookReading. J-

It's not just airplanes..it's EVERYWHERE. Old isn't necessarily worse...just usually....actually name some things that aren't!

An eBook is an adjunct to paperBooks-
I did buy back my "Simple Touch Nook Reader". (It's a good way to take books on trips). J-

This month's Consumer's Union
(just received) seems to indicate I made the right choice in a Simple Touch Nook. Jerry-

To correct an older PatchBlogPost of mine, my SimpleTouchNOOK was too simple- so I traded it for a NOOK Color which is great. Jerry-

Just gave the MI Library a bunch of hardcover books that I thought I'd get around to reading. However I do find myself wedded to my NOOK Color. So clear and sharp and easy to read anywhere high contrast type. JerryG-
