Buying a Used House is Like Buying a Used Car — It Pays to Know What You're Buying

Beware alterations in buying a used Pac NW home.

Here's a "blueprint" on how to buy an Mid-Century Modern Home:

A while ago I was called upon to evaluate one of my earlier MCM homes that came on the market after the original client/owner died. I was happy to see that the home had been lovingly lived in and only needed some rather minor updating (just some new kitchen countertops). The house had been well maintained, newly painted inside & out.

These "Pacific NorthWest Contemporary" homes are often available at a good price. By virtue of their careful design and detailing, many of these are true "Craftsman" homes- (they're sometimes available at a discount- with the reduced sale price often leaving a bit of money to put toward the usual few maintenance items, desired alterations).

However, it's important that any of these after-purchase changes/alterations be made carefully after careful consideration.

As shown, in those days we used real blueprints.
