Owning a Home Should Mean Having a Workshop (and Tools)

Owning your own home involves taking care of it. This takes time as well as the proper tools.

Anyone owning a home all too soon realizes that the things we live with — and within — often take a bit of use and abuse and rather often need to be maintained or repaired. And that's where a home workshop comes in.

As an architect, I'm around skilled workmen all the time. Also I was fortunate to go to Seattle junior and senior high schools that had wood and metal shop classes offered, as well as mechanical drawing classes that later proved oh-so invaluable in my University of Washington Architecture studies.

It's really important to have the various metal and woodworking tools and the knowledge of how to use them safely and well, the way they are meant to be employed.

The aforementioned junior- and senior-school vocational classes and the US Air Force taught me a lot — years of using tools taught me even more.
