Wood Structures have a long history on Mercer Island

Wood frame structures have a long history on Mercer Island. Here's one of the early ones--the Calkins Hotel in East Seattle. It burned to the ground in 1908 as did many other similar wood buildings (in their own time). Today's building codes and more fire stations means much safer homes for us all. Wood framing is very common, with interiors usually having plasterboard adding a strong layer of protection.

And most importantly, the electrical systems are installed to very strict National Electrical Code Standards and inspected by expert city staff.
