Mercer Island Schools Foundation hosting Phon-A-Thon Tuesday, Wednesday

November 12, 2013 – Tuesday and Wednesday evening more than 200 Mercer Island volunteers will be making phone calls for donations to the Mercer Island Schools Foundation (MISF) as part of the Annual Phon-A-Thon.

“The funds raised have an immediate and tangible impact on Mercer Island students. Donations reach all Mercer Island schools and every one of the district’s 4,120 students,” wrote Mercer Island School District Superintendent Dr. Gary Plano in his monthly message. “Please answer your phones on November 12 and 13 beginning in the early evening as volunteers, many teachers, principals and other school staff will be contacting families that evening.”

Last year more than $520,000 in funding was raised to support academic excellence and new curriculum, textbooks, classroom materials, enrichment, and provided professional development for Mercer Island teachers and student support programs. That accounted for 32 percent of revenue for the MISF. This year the MISF hopes to raise $440,800 for targeted programs, which can be reviewed here.
