$300 in Liquor Shoplifted from QFC and More: Mercer Island Blotter

A woman shoplifted more than $300 in liquor from QFC Friday night, according to Mercer Island Police.

A woman shoplifted more than $300 in liquor from the north end QFC Friday night, according to Mercer Island Police.

According to the store manager, the store's video captured the woman taking the alcohol just before 10:30 p.m., but no one witnessed it until the manager looked at the video after the woman left the store.

The woman left the area after getting into the passenger seat of a 1994 Mercedes Benz and drove away, which was registered out of Seattle, according to the police report.

The manager recognized the woman from a loss prevention briefing at the store earlier that day, according to the police report.

The theft included two bottles of Grey Goose Vodka, three bottles of Hennesey VS Cognac, two bottles of Hennesey Black Cognac and two bottles of Mount Gay Eclipse Rum, according to police.

The information on this incident came from the Mercer Island Police Department press board. Other incidents on Mercer Island include:

- 2400 block of 76th Avenue Southeast, someone stole a stainless steel outdoor mobile cart with a sink overnight Feb. 7. Loss: $1,500.

- 7600 block of Southeast 22nd Steet, about 8:30 p.m. Feb. 6, a driver, aged about 19, lost control of a 1995 BMW 318i while on a curve on Southeast 22nd Street, flipped the car and landed the car upside down in the driveway of a home, colliding with the 1995 Chevy Astro van parked there. The driver of the BMW was speeding too fast for the wet road conditions, according to the officer. No one was injured in the crash.

- 2900 block of 78th Avenue Southeast, a driver struck a power junction and an irrigation box in the median, around 8:30 a.m. Feb. 8, and then fled the scene, leaving behind a broken plastic headlamp lens marked as a Ford brand. Damage: $10,000.

I'll be a bit more direct than Jerry. The new site is a mess. Visually it's extremely cluttered.Read More It's slow, very slow. There appear to be no RSS feeds, a major negative. Following a few links sometimes sends you to a different community's Patch site. And what happened with the editing staff. Unless I missed something, suddenly there are new editors without any warning. No matter what the circumstances, normally such a move would be accompanied by an announcement of some sort. Venice may be the greatest editor ever, but it looks like she is splitting her time among several Patch sites, so the odds are stacked against her. Her "latest activities" list even suggests that she is editing a Patch site down in the San Francisco Bay area. With all due respect, Patch sites should be hyper-local, and the best route to that is a local (i.e. Mercer Islander) editor.
