AP: Suspect Held in Mercer Island Student's Death

Dartmouth College student Crispin Scott was found dead by police in Barcelona, Spain on Jan. 7.

The Associated Press is reporting police in Barcelona, Spain have arrested a suspect in the death of a Mercer Island college student last month.

According to the report, police announced over the weekend that what originally appeared to be an accidental death in an apartment in the Barcelona area is now being treated as a possible homicide. The landlord of the apartment building where they lived, a 41-year-old Ecuadorian man is being held on suspicion of his involvement in the homicide investigation.

Dartmouth College student , 20, was visiting Spain on a study-abroad program. He was found dead on Jan. 7 in an apartment near his own in the Barcelona suburb of Esplugues de Llobregat, according to El Periodico de Catalunya. Police that Scott had "died in his sleep".

According to the AP, police official declined on Monday to provide any more details, including how the victim had died. The detainee was arrested Tuesday and on Friday a judge ordered him held in custody.

Scott graduated from University Prep in Seattle in 2009.
