Mercer Island Police Commander Lesile Burns stated in a press release that officers were dispatched at 5:36 p.m. on Monday night to check reports of a older SUV-type vehicle driving recklessly in the southbond lanes on the 4300 block of Island Crest Way.

The description of the vehicle matched a 1998 silver Infiniti QX4 that was reportedly stolen during an armed robbery in Seattle. MIPD officers were unable to locate the SUV.

About an hour later, police responded at 6:21 p.m. to investigate a hit-and-run on the 3200 block of 74th Ave. Southeast. After some initial investigation, officers determined the call was actually a vehicular assault.

The victim said a possibly gold colored, early 90's Infiniti SUV occupied by two black males, both in their late teens-early 20's, crashed into the victim's vehicle several times before driving off.

The eyewitness to the alleged assault described two men in the SUV. The driver had darker skin than the suspect passenger, was approx. 6'1", with a thick build, wearing a red jersey type shirt and possibly a red baseball cap. The passenger who was sitting in the car was described as a lighter skinned African American, with afro-type black curly hair.

The SUV was gone when the officers arrived and police were later unable to locate them, but victim was able to get the first part of the license plate as "507".

Then at 7:28 p.m., police responded to reports of a carjacking in progress in the 5000 block of 84th Ave Southeast.

The victim said two lighter skin African-American men, between the ages of 20-25 years old, had approached his car and one of the men pointed some sort of firearm or pistol at the man's face. The other man got into the victim's car and attempted to take it, but reportedly didn't know how to drive a stick shift. Instead of taking his car, the man took the victim's laptop and laptop bag from his backseat and they both got back into their car and drove away back towards West Mercer Way.

The victim described the driver as approx. 6'0" and 190 lbs. and was the one who pointed a gun in his face. The passenger was approx. 5'8" and 160 lbs. and had a Jeri curl/afro-type hair style.

Mercer Island Police say no further information at this time, and the cases are still under investigation.
