Bellevue Dentist Charged With Rape, Sexual Misconduct

Mercer Island resident Kam Derakshani was accused of sexual misconduct with multiple patients who were also his employees, according to King County Prosecutors.

A Bellevue dentist has been charged with rape and related crimes for allegedly sexually assaulting three young women working at his dental clinic.

King County prosecutors believe that Mercer Island resident Dr. Kam Derakshani attacked the women at his business, Bellevue Advanced Dental Clinic, and threatened their jobs if they reported him to authorities, according to SeattlePI.com.

Derakshani has been charged with third-degree rape and unlawful imprisonment, as well as indecent liberties, and prosecutors have asked that he be held on $50,000 bail, though he has not been jailed in the case.

According to the state, which suspended his dental license in August, Derakshani's employees say that he made unwelcome sexual contact, touching the private parts of his employees

The three young women went to police in March after he pinned one woman against a wall and touched her genitals, a Bellevue Police detective told the court. The news website said a subsequent investigation uncovered myriad allegations against Derakshani, 48, who is charged with sexually assaulting all three employees.

According to charging documents, one of the women told police she went to Derakshani for the first time in late 2011. Having diagnosed her with several cavities, Derakshani treated her teeth and ultimately hired her to work for him.

Derakshani, a 48-year-old Mercer Island resident, groped the woman on her first day at work, and continued doing so on a daily basis in the weeks that followed, the Bellevue detective said in court documents.

I'll be a bit more direct than Jerry. The new site is a mess. Visually it's extremely cluttered.Read More It's slow, very slow. There appear to be no RSS feeds, a major negative. Following a few links sometimes sends you to a different community's Patch site. And what happened with the editing staff. Unless I missed something, suddenly there are new editors without any warning. No matter what the circumstances, normally such a move would be accompanied by an announcement of some sort. Venice may be the greatest editor ever, but it looks like she is splitting her time among several Patch sites, so the odds are stacked against her. Her "latest activities" list even suggests that she is editing a Patch site down in the San Francisco Bay area. With all due respect, Patch sites should be hyper-local, and the best route to that is a local (i.e. Mercer Islander) editor.
