Credit Frauds, ID Thefts Reported: Mercer Island Police Log

Two different cases of fraud were reported, according to Mercer Island Police Department reports.

Two cases of fraud were reported recently on Mercer Island, according to the Mercer Island Police Department press board.

The Nordstrom store in Tacoma informed a victim on Feb. 12, 2013, in the 4500 block of South Steele Street that two purchases were made on the victim's Visa card, according to the police report. Two other charges were denied, according to the report. Visa will cover the fradulent charges, which come to more than $1,600.

Another Mercer Islander, who lives in the 3700 block of 80th Avenue Southeast, told police that someone tried to establish credit in his and his wife's name over the last month. Most attempts were denied, but one attempt was successful, and an unauthorized GE Capital Retail Bank line of credit for $5,000 was opened in his name, which the victim was able to close.
