Dryer Lint Causes Condo Fire at Landmark Villa

The Mercer Island Fire Department reported no injuries in a Monday night fire originating from an clothes dryer in a Town Center condo.

 and assisting agencies extinguished a small apartment fire late Monday (May 23) night at the Landmark Villa condominiums at 3030 80th Ave. SE.

The fire originated in a clothes dryer at around 11:36 p.m. and began to spread into the residence on the second floor of the four-story multi-family condo complex. One of the occupants in a nearby bedroom detected the fire and tried to extinguish it while his family exited the structure and called 911.

The second floor hallway and apartment unit were filled with smoke, but the resident managed to contain the fire to the dryer until the fire department arrived. The fire was extinguished at 11:46 p.m. There were no injuries or fire extension to other apartment units.

An investigation into the cause of the fire was a build-up of lint in the clothes dryer. Damage estimates to the building and contents are estimated at $4000.

A total of 10 fire apparatus and approximately 27 firefighters took part in combatting the fire, including nine on-duty at Mercer Island firefighters. Fifteen firefighters from Bellevue, and five firefighters from Kirkland.
