Fire Department Honors Two of its Own

Awards were recently given for firefight of the year and fire officer of the year.

Recently the  (MIFD) held its annual awards banquet. Firefighter Alec Munro received the 2011 Firefighter of the Year Award and Lieutenant Curt Groscost was awarded 2011 Fire Officer of the Year.

As with other Washington cities, these annual awards are based upon several criteria that include the specific organizational values and principles of individual Fire Departments.

The mission of the MIFD is to contribute to Mercer Island's reputation as a safe, friendly, economically thriving community in which to live, work, learn, play and visit. The motto of the Department is, "The desire to serve, the ability to perform, the courage to act."
