Half-Dozen Car Prowls Reported on North-End Last Week — Mercer Island Police Blotter

The following information from June 30 - July 5 was supplied by the Mercer Island Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Mercer Island Police reported several homeowners in North-end neighborhoods experienced car break-ins and property loss on June 30 and July 5.

The following are descriptions from police records of car prowl incidents on June 30:

  • An unknown prowler broke into a locked Toyota Camry overnight on the 2400 block of 76th Avenue SE. The vehicle registration, insurance card and a garage door opener were stolen from inside. Police were unable to determine the method used to break into the car.
  • An unlocked BMW X3 was broken into sometime overnight while it was parked in the driveway of a home on the 2500 block of 71st Ave. SE. A wallet with cash and a pair of sunglasses were stolen from inside. Total losses were estimated at $260.
  • A Mazda Millennia and a GMC Jimmy truck were broken into overnight while they were parked in the driveway of a home on the 2900 block of 72nd Ave. SE. A Garmin Nuvi GPS system, valued at $200, was taken from one of the vehicles.
  • A locked Toyota Corolla was broken into overnight on the 2400 block of 64th Ave. SE sometime after 8 p.m. Nothing of value was reported taken and police were able to obtain a set of suspect fingerprints from the vehicle.
  • Registration was stolen from an unlocked Jeep Grand Cherokee overnight while it was parked on the 2800 block of 75th Place SE.

Several days later, on July 5, the owner of a Nissan XTerra discovered her vehicle had been ransacked overnight while it was parked on the 9900 block of SE 40th Street. She reported her purse containing bank cards and $150 in cash, $100-worth of gift cards and her license were stolen from inside.
