Mercer Island Fire Chief Chris Tubbs was recently accepted into the Executive Leadership Program at the Naval Post Graduate School's Center for Homeland Defense and Security, according to a city press release.

After an extensive application process, reviewing all aspects of his career and achievements, Chief Tubbs will join the Class of 2014. This highly competitive nine month program requires a week of onsite attendance each quarter, with all costs covered by the Department of Homeland Security.

Chief Tubbs told officials he is "honored to represent Mercer Island at this elite national level, and looks forward to serving as the City's ambassador while interacting with other professionals," from agencies as diverse as the Department of Defense, FBI, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, TSA, Department of Justice, and others.

The purpose of the program is to strengthen overall national security by providing hand-picked executive level graduates with a deeper understanding of current and emerging homeland security issues, public policy debates, and terrorist threats, and then helping them take that knowledge back to their home agencies and communities.
