Mercer Island Police Blotter: String of Paddle Board Thefts Continues

The following information from Sept. 15 - 22 was supplied by the Mercer Island Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Police report a rash of paddle board thefts on Mercer Island continuing since around Sept. 11. Most of the boards have been reported stolen from private property and most were reported by the victims to have been chained to outdoor storage racks.

Sept. 15

Stolen purses found in bushes

A woman reported finding two purses containing various documents in the bushes by her home on the 2500 block of 70th Avenue SE.

Paddle board stolen

A paddle board valued at $1,600 was stolen from a storage rack at sometime between Sept. 11 and Sept. 15.

Sept. 16

Minors in possession of alcohol

Two teenagers were arrested for possessing alcohol at a football game at .

Sept. 17

Paddleboard stolen from yard

A North Mercer Way resident reported that a fiberglass paddleboard was missing from his property on the 8900 block of North Mercer Way, apparently stolen.

Semi-automatic shotgun, other weapons stolen from car

A Seattle resident reported that three rifles were stolen from his car while he was fishing at .

Sept. 18

DUI arrest

A 21-year-old man was arrested on the 8300 block of SE 82nd Street for DUI and his car impounded; his blood alcohol level was between .188 and .192.

Sept. 20

Five Paddle Boards Reported Stolen in 24 Hours

An East Mercer Way resident reported that her two paddleboards and a paddle were stolen from a locked outside wooden rack at her home on the 4100 block.

The report came a day after another resident on the 6000 block of Avalon Place reported that three paddle boards had been stolen from his waterfront yard.

Trespass report at Starbucks

A 53-year old Renton man was barred from Mercer Island Starbucks stores after store management complained that he had taken numerous photos of female employees at the .

Two paddleboards stolen from back yard

A resident reported that two paddleboards and paddles worth about $2,300 total were stolen from a back yard on the 2700 block of 60th Ave SE sometime between Sept. 11 and Sept. 22.

I'll be a bit more direct than Jerry. The new site is a mess. Visually it's extremely cluttered.Read More It's slow, very slow. There appear to be no RSS feeds, a major negative. Following a few links sometimes sends you to a different community's Patch site. And what happened with the editing staff. Unless I missed something, suddenly there are new editors without any warning. No matter what the circumstances, normally such a move would be accompanied by an announcement of some sort. Venice may be the greatest editor ever, but it looks like she is splitting her time among several Patch sites, so the odds are stacked against her. Her "latest activities" list even suggests that she is editing a Patch site down in the San Francisco Bay area. With all due respect, Patch sites should be hyper-local, and the best route to that is a local (i.e. Mercer Islander) editor.
