Mercer Island Police Shelter Lost Chihuahua

MIPD patrol officers found a lost Chihuahua at Homestead Park Tuesday and are temporarily sheltering him until they find the dog's owners.

A Mercer Island Police patrol on Tuesday made an unusual discovery near Homestead Park.

Police discovered a small, tan, male Chihuahua, possbily a puppy. He is a golden tan color, in great condition, but with no collar and he is not micro chipped.

Commander Leslie Burns said one of the department's staff members took the dog home overnight, and he's keeping the MIPD company today. Burns reached out to local media, including Mercer Island Patch, to help contact the owners of the lost Chihuahua.

"He is super friendly, very pretty and a good little guy, so I am sure someone is missing him greatly!" she said. "We do not want to send him to Animal Control, so are trying to keep him with us until we can find his family."

If you recognize the dog or know the pet's owners, please contact the Mercer Island Police Records Department at 206-275-7610, then press 7.

I'll be a bit more direct than Jerry. The new site is a mess. Visually it's extremely cluttered.Read More It's slow, very slow. There appear to be no RSS feeds, a major negative. Following a few links sometimes sends you to a different community's Patch site. And what happened with the editing staff. Unless I missed something, suddenly there are new editors without any warning. No matter what the circumstances, normally such a move would be accompanied by an announcement of some sort. Venice may be the greatest editor ever, but it looks like she is splitting her time among several Patch sites, so the odds are stacked against her. Her "latest activities" list even suggests that she is editing a Patch site down in the San Francisco Bay area. With all due respect, Patch sites should be hyper-local, and the best route to that is a local (i.e. Mercer Islander) editor.

The Jury is still out. I liked the "Old Patch". J
