MIPD Arrests Suspect in Pharmacy Robberies

Police say the 20-year-old suspect was captured on surveillance video and quickly identified by detectives, and confessed to robbing pharmacies on Mercer Island and in Bellevue.

A 20-year-old Mercer Island resident has been arrested on suspicion of robbing two pharmacies of narcotics, one on the island Feb. 3 and the other in Bellevue Feb. 9.

Mercer Island police arrested the man Tuesday, and he was then booked into the King County Jail in Seattle.

MIPD Cmdr. Leslie Burns said the first robbery was at the Albertson’s in-store pharmacy, where the suspect presented a note demanding the widely abused drugs Oxycontin and Oxycodone. He is alleged to have then robbed a pharmacy in the Factoria area, also demanding the two drugs.

He was captured on surveillance video in both cases, and quickly identified by Mercer Island detectives. Mercer Island police say he gave a full confession after he was arrested when he arrived for a scheduled hearing in the Mercer Island Municipal Court on an unrelated charge.
